YouthBuild Program

YouthBuild Waynesboro provides relevant and rigorous work and learning opportunities to educationally and economically disadvantaged young adults (ages 16–24) who have dropped out of school. Twenty-four (24) weeks of education, twenty-four (24) weeks of construction and four (4) weeks of subsidized employment allow the participants to earn a stipend during education weeks and a wage per hour during construction weeks. The education component addresses areas including basic education, life skills, workshops for independent living, career management and employability training, attitude and behavior classes, GED preparation and leadership training. The construction component provides hands-on instructional building of a single family home.

Throughout the past year, fifteen (15) young adults participated in the program and constructed one (1) three (3) bedroom single family home. Since the program’s inception in January 1999 over eighty (80) young adults have participated in the program and constructed a total of six (6) single family homes.
