Family Self-Sufficiency Program
The Family Self-Sufficiency Program is a 5-year program specifically for families receiving housing assistance. Both Public Housing and Housing Choice Voucher participants are eligible for this program, which connects program participants to the community resources needed to achieve personal goals.
Participants work with a dedicated FSS Coordinator to set both long- and short-term goals that will help them move toward self-sufficiency. Whether that means becoming a better parent, finding a higher-paying job, earning a diploma or GED, or simply applying for available benefits, the FSS program can help participants achieve these goals!
The FSS program comes with lots of perks, from priority enrollment for Nutrition, Financial, and other classes offered at no cost by the WRHA, to an interest-bearing savings account established by the WRHA on behalf of the FSS family. If a family’s rent increases as a result of earned income during their participation in the FSS program, the FSS grant deposits a matching amount into this savings account. If the family meets all of their goals, the balance of this account is disbursed to the family! Participants have earned anywhere from $2,000 to $20,000!
